Do Ducks Eat Slugs and Snails?
How ducks naturally forage in a garden, and why no garden visit can promise to remove every pest.
Ducks are curious foragers. In a suitable secure garden, they may search through grass, damp edges and planted areas for slugs, snails, insects and other small invertebrates.
They naturally search where small things hide
Ducks use their bills to investigate grass, soil edges, fallen leaves and damp corners. Slugs and snails can be part of what catches their attention, alongside insects and other small garden life.
A visit is a helping hand, not a guarantee
Every garden changes with weather, planting, shelter and the day itself. Ducks may find some slugs and snails, but they cannot promise to clear every pest or protect every plant.
The garden needs to be safe for the ducks
Before a visit, the space needs secure fencing, shade, drinking water and no recent slug pellets or harmful pesticides. We also agree where the ducks may forage before they arrive.
