How Much Space Do Ducks Need? Housing & Run Basics
What a practical, secure and duck-friendly set-up needs to do.
There is no single magic number for every flock. Breed, size, weather, time outdoors, ground condition and how the birds behave all matter. The aim is a dry, secure, well-ventilated home where ducks can move, rest and keep clean.
Keep the night house dry and secure
The house needs to protect ducks from weather and predators, while giving them dry bedding and room to settle without being cramped.
Fresh air matters
Good ventilation helps keep the house fresh, but ducks also need protection from cold draughts. Check the bedding and air quality as part of the routine.
Plan for cleaning, not just the first day
A set-up that is easy to sweep, re-bed, refill and inspect will stay healthier and be much easier to manage long term.
