Natural Slug Control for Vegetable Gardens

A sensible way to reduce slug pressure around vegetable beds while keeping plant protection and duck welfare in mind.

Vegetable gardens need a careful balance: seedlings need protection, food-growing areas need good hygiene, and any natural approach needs to be practical for the plot.

01

Protect the plants that matter most

Young lettuce, brassicas and seedlings can be especially tempting. Prioritise physical protection and regular checks around the plants you most want to keep.

02

Keep paths and edges easy to inspect

Clear access makes it simpler to spot damp hiding places, remove damaged leaves and see where slug activity is strongest. Small regular checks are more useful than a once-a-season rescue.

03

Agree the duck-foraging area first

Ducks may nibble vegetables, disturb loose soil or paddle in water, so they are not right for every bed. For a suitable garden visit, we agree boundaries and the areas where the ducks may forage.
