How to Protect Hostas From Slugs Naturally
Simple ways to give hostas more protection without pretending a garden can ever be completely slug-free.
Hostas are often most vulnerable when fresh new leaves are appearing. A little attention early in the season can make a visible difference to how the leaves look later on.
Check new growth little and often
Look around the base of hostas, beneath pots and along shaded edges. Early checks are usually easier than waiting until leaves are already badly marked.
Keep the area around the crown practical
Move damp hiding places away from the plant where possible and consider barriers or raised positioning that fit your own garden. Do not use anything that could trap or harm visiting wildlife.
Plan duck access carefully
Ducks may be interested in soft leaves as well as small invertebrates. If you book a Garden Visit, tell us which plants need protecting and agree where the ducks can safely forage.
