A future Manchester Duck Park

Make room for rare ducks in the city.

Alford Ducks is working towards a secure, welfare-led home for rare and heritage ducks: a place for careful breeding, wetland habitat, learning and responsible hatching eggs.

We want people to be able to meet ducks up close on planned education days, understand what good duck care looks like, and take that knowledge into their own flock.

This is a future vision. Land has not been secured and the public site is not open yet.

The project in simple terms

A safer, more visible future for ducks and the people who care about them.

Start with one secure Manchester site, build it carefully, then share a model that could bring more nature and duck knowledge into other UK cities.

01 — Welfare

Safe, purposeful duck homes

Secure housing, water, shelter, space and careful flock management designed around the ducks’ needs.

02 — Heritage

Rare and heritage breeding

Responsible, well-documented breeding that helps keep distinctive duck breeds and pure lines visible and valued.

03 — Learning

See, ask and understand

Future supervised visits, practical sessions and clear guides about duck welfare, hatching, food and habitat.

04 — Habitat

Nature built into the site

Wetland edges, native planting, wildflowers, rainwater capture and simple solar features, added in sensible stages.

Keeping the purpose clear

Good duck keeping, useful education and a fair way to support both.

The commercial and public-benefit parts need to be clear. Alford Ducks keeps the practical breeding and egg side honest; the wider community and conservation work is intended to grow through a future Community & Nature CIC with separate finances and governance.
